I'm replacing a Hayward Super Pump Pool Motor, model C48L2N134B1, can I replace it with a standard motor of equal specs thats not the energy efficient variety?

Best answer:

Answer by Renaissance Man
Pool pump motors are typically matched to the pump to which it is attached, so equal electrical specs do not assure a proper match.

As long as a motor has the same mounting type/spacing to the pump volute as the original, and the shaft length/diam are the same, using the same type/size mechanical seal, etc., an equivalent motor should be okay. It has to be a motor designed for the same application (pool/spa pumps).

Referring to the manufacturer's replacement specs should tell you what motor makes/models are acceptable substitutes, if any. Otherwise you should just spring for the OEM replacement, since there are warranties, which you void if you've gotten "creative".

Question by Meganator: Costly not to have an energy efficient fridge?
We just got a fridge from some friends, and it's an older fridge (20 years old). It's still in great condition, but the prev. owner said it just wasn't energy efficiant. We got it for free, so we're not too concerened, expecially since we can't afford a new one right now. Do you know how much a difference it will make in our electric bill? Right now, on average, ours is about $ 70 (because we're not using air or heat).
Sorry, I didn't mean that our bill is $ 70.00 with the fridge. We just picked it up tonight, and we haven't even used it yet. Our bill is currently $ 70.00 (for MID Modesto Irrigation districtn is what we use for air/heat). I just don't know how much it's going to go up.

Best answer:

Answer by wallyinsa
Can't give you exact figures but even an old fridge doesn't use
$ 70 a month. You've got something else going on too - water
heater, stove, lights. Energy efficient fridges WILL save money
over their lifetime but if you can't afford to buy one........
Set your thermostat to medium ( usually # 5 ) and keep the doors
closed as much as possible. Also - very important - check the
seal around the door - a lot of cool air can escape through there,
causing your fridge to run longer than necessary.

Answer by karen d
I have heard that oil radiators are safer and more energy efficient.
Space heaters cause a lot of fires. I would try Walmart, Home Depot, or Lowes, they would probably be fairly cheap there and you would have a pretty good selection at Home Depot or Lowes.

In this commercial, we see the information pass from one component to the next. A rapidly moving energy beam transforms from an icy trail when it connects to the air conditioner to a warm energy blast as it connects to the furnace to a clear, clean flash that brings the air purifier to life. It then travels to the icomfort Thermostat, which sends a new set of commands out to the HVAC system. The result is a stunning journey into the system and an understanding that because everything works together, everything works more efficiently, showcasing an innovative Lennox product line.

www.permies.com http I made this video to augment my article "REALLY Saving Energy with The Heat Bubble: how I cut 87% off of my electric heat by heating the person instead of the whole house". This is a DIY alternative form of energy conservation Camille Pearl comes over to my house and tests my energy saving theories for herself. We start off stripping off her clothes that are more than just a single, normal layer people might wear in a fully heated area. Then we have her stand in the cool area until she feels too cold, then move her to the desk with the micro personal heaters. It was in this video where Camille first refers to this as a "bubble." And now, that's what we call this technique: "a heat bubble". She starts off too cold, and then spends 30 minutes at the heated desk area. At the end of the 30 minutes she is fully warmed up and feels like she could work there indefinitely. We then turn off the micro heat and see how long she can hold out until she feels too cold to keep working. About three minutes and ten seconds. Quick summary of micro heaters: 40 watts: incandescent light bulb in a chick brooder configuration 25 watts: heated keyboard 15 watts: dog bed heater / heating pad 2.5 watts: heated mouse 82.5 watts total. A homemade approach to save the environment. Alternatives are sources for home production. This may be a big boost to renewable energy efforts.
AO Smith is taking energy efficiency to new heights with four new families of residential water heaters. Designed to provide homeowners with significant energy savings, these new products represent the latest advances in gas, gas hybrid, electric hybrid and solar thermal technology. The Voltex™ hybrid electric water heater features a new heat pump technology that makes it more than twice as efficient as a standard electric water heater. Voltex operates like an air conditioner in reverse, pulling heat from the surrounding air and transferring it to the tank. The result is potentially a significant reduction in energy costs: 3 annually for a Voltex, compared to up to 5 for a conventional electric model. The Voltex is also eligible for a federal tax credit equal to 30% of its total installed cost, up to a maximum of 00. Many state and local utilities also have significant rebates for this technology. As a result, depending upon the application, this water heater can pay for itself in less than three years. Voltex is the only type of electric water heater that is ENERGY STAR® rated.
