I am replacing a twenty year old steam boiler and steam radiators to a radiant floor system. I am so confused by the number of choices to heat the water for this system. I could use a traditional boiler, a tankless hot water heater, or even a wall hung combination boiler and tankless hot water system. Question by debra c: How can I apply for a grant to make my old home more energy efficient?
I don’t want to apply to any of those companies that claim they can get the information on funding only to have to pay some type of fee to get the information, I think there is a federally funded program but I don’t know where to start.

Question by ahm: Is it more energy efficient to let the heat pump run all day?
My thermostat will start using the electric furnace if the target temperature is more than 2 degrees higher than the current temperature.
So,
Scenario 1: Set the temperature to 50 degrees during the day. Heat pump will barely work when temperature drops below 50. By 4:30, the electric furnace will run to bring temperature to 68 degrees then the heat pump will take over.
