Energy saving advice – Energy efficient fluorescent tube lighting

This short video explains how to replace your fluorescent tube lighting to more energy efficient T12 tubes. If you have fluorescent tube lighting, changing from T12 tubes to T8s will bring energy savings of 10%. Q&A: Why do all the energy saving light bulbs (fluorescent?) say not to use them with electric timers?

Question by syuol: Why do all the energy saving light bulbs (fluorescent?) say not to use them with electric timers?
It seems like all the energy saving bulbs say on the package never to use with electric timers and I can’t figure why. My sister has used them with timers and it appears they burned out rather quickly. Whats the difference between having a timer turn the light on at a certain time and just flipping the switch?

Best answer:

Answer by up yNever heard of that with a timer. Timers are used commericially for fluorescents. I know that [...]

How much do water restrictors, energy efficient refrigerators, and fluorescent lightbulbs save you money?

by Marit & Toomas Hinnosaar

Question by A Republican From Texas: How much do water restrictors, energy efficient refrigerators, and fluorescent lightbulbs save you money?

Best answer:

Answer by kcguy6935Well that would depend on how much you use them.

A CFL uses 75% less electricity and even though it costs more has a payback of well under a year once again this depends on price of bulb and price per kw of electricity and hours used.

An LED does not have as quick of a payback due to high initial cost but it uses 80% to 85% less electricity and lasts longer than [...]

Energy-saving fluorescent light bulbs – do they use less energy if switched on for only a minute?

Question by keni: Energy-saving fluorescent light bulbs – do they use less energy if switched on for only a minute?
I heard that they use a kick of energy when you first switch them on, then use a lot less while they stay on. Is the initial amount more than, say a normal 60w bulb? If so, what is the length of time where the two use the same amount of energy? This isn’t an exam question – I just want to know if it is worth using energy-saving bulbs where they are used frequently for short periods [...]

I know fluorescent lighting is more energy efficient but how much energy is it saving?

Question by pink.love: I know fluorescent lighting is more energy efficient but how much energy is it saving?
What if all the fluorescent lights in a classroom were turned off, about how much money or energy would that actually save?

Best answer:

Answer by Jerry LeeIt will depend on the size of the classroom, and how well lit it is. It will require more lighting if it has dark paint or dark floors, or faces north, or they have classes at night, or there are no windows at all.

I estimate 1,000-2,000 Watts.
