What are the differences between these fuels to oil as a fuel.

What are the benefits and drawbacks to these fuels, how viable are they?

These are the fuels:
Hydrogen
Alcohol
Vegetable Oils

Answer by Kennethhydrogen – clean burning, water the only residue
expensive to make, difficult to store safely

alcohol – fairly clean to burn – but puts out CO2, lower energy output that gasoline, usually from corn – which is bad

vegetable oils – similar to alcohol
not available in large amounts (nice if you own a McD’s – but otherwise no so much)

Is the production of over 100 tonnes of liquid hydrogen at each launch insignificant to spend money to optimize the processes or develop new methods? thanks

World production of hydrogen is 50 million tonnes per year, so the STS needs are pretty insignificant compared to that number. Commercial hydrogen is produced chemically from hydrocarbons. Conversion to a hydrogen economy would only work if we’d produced more hydrogen via electrolysis, using electricity produced by nuclear energy or alternative sources like solar energy.
