Answer by Thomas CA modern wind turbine has a capacity of 1.5 to 2.5 MW. Unfortunately they don’t run continuously, much less at maximum capacity.

Since this is your science project, I’ll let you do most of the research. Here are some of the items you’ll need.

1) Annual kWh consumption of the “average” home.
2) Installed capacity of wind turbines.
3) Average capacity factor of wind turbines. (25 to 40%)

I am looking for some website or forum where I can discuss the nitty-gritty of making wind turbines and building anything that enables people to go off the grid and build their own boats, heat sources, alternative fuels, all-natural materials, etc.
Would anyone know where to find that?

I work as an estimator for an electrical contractor. We are bidding a fairly large wind farm with GE 1.5MW WTGs. Can anyone give me an idea as to what is involved in their internal electrical connections? I would also like to know roughly how many man hours are involved?

Answer by JackoYou can easily make one from an old stepper motor out of a printer, or a computer.
Just put a fan or a propeller on the shaft and that’s it. If you want to produce DC, then you will need a rectifier as well.
This will probably take the form of 6 diodes, in order to get the maximum output.
