Question by Yuggs: Can I use a residential well for geothermal energy?
I am building a new house. We have to drill a deep well for water (~500ft). Can this same well be used for geothermal energy as well, or does that have to be on a separate system?
Best answer:
Answer by MikeYou can use your well for both.
In the summer, you can use it to help cool your house, because the water will be relatively cool. You can use a heat exchanger ti transfer the heat from your house to [...]
Question by : What is the practicality of geothermal energy versus other energy sources?
Best answer:
Answer by minefinderIn order to generate electricity from geothermal sources, you need a reservoir of water greater than 100°C within a reasonable distance from the surface, usually about 1500 m.
The principle is very simple – drill a hole into the reservoir to tap into the hot water, pump the water to the surface under pressure so it doesn’t boil, and then “flash” (release the pressure) the water in a turbine so that the steam spins the turbine to turn a generator and produce electricity. Then you [...]

Question by Julian: How Bush/McCain promote the wind, geothermal and solar energy?
If they are controlled by the oil companies?
Best answer:
Answer by essieThere are not against the other forms of energy, that is probably another silly rumor put out by democrats who have nothing better to do.

Question by BUNguyenI: Is there an index fund for geothermal energy ?
Everybody seems to be ignoring geothermal for “sexier” alternative energy systems like wind, solar, and nuclear. Geothermal, once relatively high fixed costs are overcome, is virtually free energy that lasts indefinitely and doesn’t depend on volatile energy sources like light or wind and doesn’t present the risks of nuclear. If we have the technology to drill deep into oceans for oil, why can’t we drill into the earth for heat?
I would like to invest into such companies that specialize in geothermal technology development and energy producing as I [...]
